Unboxing Leica Noctilux M 50mm f1.2 ASPH (Reissue)
Noctilux 50mm f1.2 ASPH has been my ultimate dream lens and also the first lens that I lay my eyes on. But the price tag kept me away from knowing more about it or simply don’t want to look at the pictures from this lens. The original one’s price tag is totally out of my budget and I have never thought of owning this lens and I have only tried it once when I was in Sydney. Just like there will always be a dream girl that you cannot have.
Until Leica announce reissuing this vintage lens as Heritage edition. The first impression of it is pretty modern I would say unlike vintage Noctilux coating colour already quite different. But bokeh wise is quite similar with swirl bokeh and the right amount of softness at f1.2. I have only tested the lens with Leica M10-P and shot one frame in Ilford Pan 400 black and white negative film. But of course, the taste of this lens is more perfect than the original copy since the double aspherical glass is no longer hand ground by one man but with advanced machines for precisions.
The lens is just about the right size to carry every single day but the weight of 405g is quite heavy. Taking 49mm filter shouldn’t be hard to find unlike the old version taking 48mm filter or the super rare hood.
I am looking forward to using this lens more often and hopefully share the complete review of my opinion on this lens. I know some of you might feel the same with a little bit of disappointment because it is not like the original copy but try it more often and create some nice photos and I am sure you will enjoy more about this lens.
