Photowalk with Mau in Central HK – Leica M10P and Summilux Steel Rim
The other day, I had an enjoyable photowalk with Mau, a passionate photographer who was in Hong Kong for a business trip. Check out his amazing work here. He brought along his Leica M11 monochrom which he had purchased in Italy, paired with a Summilux 35/1.4 FLE lens.
We wandered around the picturesque Tai Kwun centre in Central, searching for interesting compositions and subjects. The Former Central Police Station Compound is a historic site built between 1841 and 1925, consisting of 16 buildings including a former police station, prison and magistracy. This area has a rich colonial history and the restored complex reopened as Tai Kwun in May 2018.
I saw some Instagrammers and took a few shots for fun. The weather was moody, with occasional sunlight followed by clouds. We then headed to a street market where I asked some locals if I could take their portraits. I used my Leica M10P in monochrome mode and a 35mm f/1.4 Summilux Version 1 (Steel Rim) lens. To minimise a soft glowy effect, I shot at f/2 and f/2.8.
Mau and I learned a lot from each other’s perspectives in street and portrait photography during this walk. It was an enjoyable and insightful photowalk!
