New addition Voigtlander 35mm f/1.5 Asph VM Lens and Its Sleek Square Hood
Introducing my latest addition – the Voigtlander 35mm f/1.5 asph VM lens, which I acquired primarily for its accompanying hood. As a fan of square hoods, particularly the sleek Summicron 35mm APO style or the Leica Q3, I was drawn to this lens for its clean and stylish appearance. In fact, the hood was the main reason I wanted to add this lens to my collection.
After researching extensively, I discovered that this lens is a Nokton 35mm f/1.5 aspherical lens, featuring two-sided aspherical glasses. However, it is important to note that it may not deliver the same level of sharpness as the Summilux 35mm asph lenses, such as the Leica Summilux 35mm f/1.4 asph FLE (11663) or pre-FLE (11874). Nonetheless, I opted for the black painted version due to its compact size.

Interestingly, its younger sibling, the Ultron 35mm f/2, had been my favorite 35mm lens from their lineup. With the Voigtlander 35mm f/1.5, I wasn’t seeking ultimate sharpness. Instead, I wanted a compact lens that would accompany me during my travels, capturing standard quality images. Fortunately, this lens exceeded my expectations by striking the perfect balance between compactness, sharpness, and a pleasing aesthetic.
I believe it is an excellent choice for those who prefer a slightly less clinical sharpness, while still having excellent control over chromatic aberration and flare. During my recent trips to Scotland and London, I took this lens for a spin, pairing it with the black paint version of the Nokton 35mm f/1.5 asph and the brass square hood. If you’re interested in purchasing this setup, you can find the link below. Both brass and black paint versions are available, with a silver option coming soon.
All the images accompanying this blog post were captured using my trusty Leica M10-P. I would love to hear your thoughts on them. Feel free to leave your feedback and impressions.
