Experimenting Cross Processing with the Reflx Lab Pro 100 Film in E-6
Recently, I had the opportunity to experiment with Reflx Lab’s new color negative film, the Reflx Lab Pro 100. This versatile film can be processed using either C-41 or E-6 chemicals. While there isn’t an abundance of information available about E-6 processing for this film, I was eager to try it out with a warming filter to evaluate the results. Some photographers have suggested rating the film at ISO 50 or 64, so I opted to shoot at ISO 64 using an 81C warming filter.
The outcome was intriguing, although I believe using an 85B filter might have produced a slightly warmer effect. The images appeared to be half a stop overexposed, suggesting that ISO 100 might be a better choice. The whites in the photos weren’t crisp, but they did lend a vintage or retro film aesthetic that I found appealing. The film also yielded transparencies that I enjoyed, such as the strikingly vivid red of Vasily’s shirt and the cinematic cool color tones in a portrait of my friend. Additionally, the film created a dreamy, almost surreal atmosphere in the images.
After my initial experience, I decided to shoot another two rolls in Taipei, this time using a more intense 85B warming filter and shooting at ISO 100. I’ve sent these rolls to the lab for E-6 development and eagerly await the results. Be sure to visit my blog later for an update on how this experiment unfolds.
