Brevite The Jumper Camera Backpack Review – Simply Love It!

My obsession with camera bags never stops; it drives me to try different brands, even those without a camera insert, as long as they complement my outfit and accommodate everything I need daily or for travel.

Recently, I have been using a few bags: the Goruck 21L, Evergoods Panel Loader 24L – X Pac, and Bellroy 9L camera sling. Each is distinct in functionality and materials. I took the Goruck on my trip to Scotland and the Evergoods to Kyoto and Osaka. Aiming for maximum storage, I packed one medium format camera, two Leica M cameras, 20-30 rolls of film, and one or two spare lenses. Both bags provided maximum comfort for daily carry, thanks to their durable materials and cushioned strap designs.

Brevite - The Jumper Backpack

While searching for something more compact and minimalist as a daily camera bag, I received the Brevite camera bag. The material feels really comfortable; although it lacks Cordura or other expensive waterproof materials, it is soft and cosy to the touch. Ever since I got my Magnum x Filson messenger and backpack, olive or sage green has always been my favourite colour.

The Brevite backpack has 18L volume, it includes several dividers, which are sufficient for packing everything I need for my trips. Typically, I pack one camera and two lenses inside the backpack along with an Osmo Pocket 3. For my trip to Jeju, Korea, I was impressed by how I could carry most of what I wanted, yet the backpack still felt quite compact. I stored three cameras and a spare lens: the Hasselblad Xpan II with a 45mm f/4 lens, Leica M10 Monochrom with a Summicron 50mm f/2 APO, Leica MP with MS Optics Apoqualia 28mm f/2 II, and a Foca Oparlex 5cm f/1.9.

My favourite feature is the front compartment, where I can store spare batteries, filters, and lens wipes, and in the middle, I can put my Kindle or charging cables. The top storage is perfect for my passport, sunglasses, and film case. My only concern is about how to wash the bag; it doesn’t get dirty easily, but occasionally I want to clean it, and I am unsure whether it can be machine washed.

Compared to Goruck or Wandrd, the straps could be thicker, but considering the amount of items you’ll be carrying, after spending a week in Jeju and Seoul, it still felt comfortable. The downside of using comfortable bags like Goruck and Evergoods is their lack of camera inserts, which means every time I need to lay the bag down to open it like I pack my stuff, and the insert usually takes up some space already. If you often carry more than two cameras, a larger bag might be necessary. However, if you typically carry one or two cameras with one or two extra lenses, this is definitely a very good option to consider. The material is water-resistant, but for use under rain, Evergoods or Goruck might be better options with X Pac material.

Comparison with Billingham and Filson x Magnum Backpack and Messenger

When comparing the Brevite with the Billingham Pro 2020 and Filson x Magnum backpack and messenger, Brevite stands out for its comfort and lightweight design, I know it’s not fair to compare to a messenger bag, particularly for daily wear. In contrast, the Filson Magnum backpack and messenger, though well-crafted, often leave me concerned that someone could easily access the contents.

One aspect I particularly love about the Brevite is the camera compartment; it’s not only easy to use but also secure. While Billingham bags are undeniably sturdy and well-built, they are too heavy for comfortable daily carry.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I love the bag; it is very easy to access all of my gear from the side pocket and so many different small pockets that are so user friendly to the main camera compartment at the bottom,  and I love how I can store my water bottle on the side! I highly recommend checking out this bag if you want something light and appreciate the feel of fabric rather than hard, durable materials.

You may check out their camera bags here, the one I am using is The Jumper Backpack Regular in Pine Green.

Special thanks to Brevite for sending me this camera bag to try.
